JerseyClicks is New Jersey's statewide portal that features federated searching of the statewide full-text databases offered by the New Jersey State Library, the New Jersey Network, and funds from the Library Services and Technology Act. The portal can be found at www.jerseyclicks.org.

New Jersey residents can search the full-text databases through one user-friendly interface. JerseyClicks offers keyword and custom searching of databases through a federated search. That means you don't have to search each database individually. You can search them simultaneously. These high quality databases cover subjects such as health, history, business, education, science, current events, literature, and popular fiction. The suite also includes Informe, our Spanish language full-text database. If you have Internet access you can search for high quality Internet age information 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Quick Search offers keyword searching across all disciplines. After entering a search, the customer is asked to enter a library card number before results are seen. If the search is done within a library building, no library card number will be required.

RECOMMENDED SEARCH TECHNIQUE

Custom Search offers the user the ability to choose the databases to be searched. Click on the Q&Anj link to go to our statewide virtual reference service.

When you click on Custom Search the following appears:

Enter the first six digits of your library card number (any card issued by a library in the state of New Jersey) and click Go or <Enter>. The following appears:

Click Clear Checkmarks. Then choose what data bases to search by clicking in the box next to the name. If you do not clear the checkmarks a federated search is done and 99% of the time there are too many hits. After choosing the data bases put your search term(s) in the Search For block. To narrow your search use the drop-down menus and the Boolean operations listed below the main search block. Porbably you’ll want to limit periodical searching to hits with full-text access so use the Limit Your Search To (Optional) blocks.

To effectively utilize this resource you absolutely must practice and play around with it.

Another huge and informative data base accessible through JerseyClicks is Reference/USA. To get into it click, on the middle, left-hand side of the screen:

Again you will brought to the screen to enter your library card number. Do so and the following appears:

Choose which one of the Reference/USA data bases to search by clicking on the radio button next to it.

Good luck and enjoy these wonderful resources provided to the people of New Jersey through our State Library.
