Obituary Indexes

We have an extensive obituary index (on index cards!) of the residents of Paterson 1905-1997 that is periodically updated when time permits.  Note that the earliest obituaries that we have indexed were for those who had influence, were famous, or died in some unnatural way (i.e. accident, murder, etc.). Everybody else had a brief mention in the death notices part of the newspaper.

Early Paterson Newspapers’ marriage and death notices 1822 – 1867 as published in the The Chronicle & Bergen Essex Advertiser, Paterson Courier, Falls City Register, Daily Guardian & Paterson Daily Guardian, Paterson Daily Register, Paterson Daily Press/compiled by Robert J. Hazekamp Jr. from the Passaic County Historical Society’s Mattie M. Bowman collection; Passaic County Historical Society, Paterson, New Jersey; 2012
