| Born in England in 1837, Samuel S. Carr came to America as a young man. Though little is known about his early life, he lived in Brooklyn with relatives and was an active artist. Carr is known for his paintings of children, the seashore, and peaceful pastoral scenes. His favorite subject was children at play. Children's Parade is typical of Carr's charming and sympathetic depictions of the activities of children. Carr's paintings have wide appeal, and are admired for their nostalgic simplicity and accomplished use of color and light. |
